600 Shoes for Elementary School Kids

Dec 17, 2018

Colorful shoes lined up next to each other

As you may have noticed by reading our previous blog posts about the school lunch payoff initiative earlier this year, the team at Acima is always looking for ways to help the local community. When we learned there was a need for shoes in some of the area schools, we knew right away that we wanted to help.

We ended up choosing David Gourley Elementary as the recipient for our shoe giveaway. After paying off their school lunch debt earlier in the year, we absolutely fell in love with the students and the lunch ladies. The students at this school still have a need for assistance and we felt shoes could really make a difference to those who attend David Gourley.

Ultimately, we delivered almost 600 shoes, plus we left some extra pairs with the school in case they are needed in the future. Our amazing team members spent 6.5 hours helping every student try on their new shoes; making sure they got the exact size they needed. We had lots of extras on hand in case students needed to exchange their shoes for a different size. The Acima team really enjoyed sitting down with the kids and getting to know them a little better.

In addition to new shoes, a local social worker and the United Way provided new socks for kids who needed them.

It was a labor of love, and while we were pretty exhausted by the end of the day, it was SO worth it to see the kids’ faces light up when they got their new shoes. The kids were so grateful and they even wrote us an adorable “thank you” note that we hung up in our break room. We look forward to doing more initiatives like this in the future. We love our community so much, and love when we have the opportunity to help wherever we can.
